Yoga and Spa@Home

In this beautiful month of March I wanted to let you know about my personal experience and the world of yoga. The end of March is when I will start teaching. It has been a huge journey for me. It all started last year, when my love for yoga developed and I noticed that it helped my health, body and mind. I have always worked with bodies as most of you know, I can massage morning, noon and night. I enjoy it so much especially working with my cupping therapy, reiki, deep tissue and meridian stretch massage.  The placicity of bodies and how strong and resilient we truly are, I think we all take for granted how amazing and special it is, I admit I'd forgotten about my own body. This I realised half way though my course, I became aware how back in my body I felt and fully present in my own life, I was seeing things with new eyes. It has been a true transformation for me, I have met friends who I'm sure I will keep for a long time, have grown in my depth of understanding the body and how to keep searching and looking for new things to bring, new ways to work and grow.
It has also amazingly prepared me for my next task of taking on spa@home and how super proud I am to still be working in something I truly believe in! I wish to follow in the path that my friend and partner in crime Amanda has set forward. It is with great gratitude to her and all the opportunities that she has given me in the past, that words are not enough to thank her.  She may not be in Deia anymore but she will always be with Spa@Home.

Sridaiva

A little bit about the style of yoga I do.  I have been working with a system called Sridaiva, which means divine destiny. Using a bowspring alignment which creates the optimal neutral alignment for the spine. With the bowspring nothing is ever straight, much like our bodies, we have natural curves: the curve of the neck and the spine. This system has come around to help in any form of athletics, yoga or to any dynamic posture sitting, standing and walking. It is great for students of all ages, particularly over 40, who can benefit from the use of the bowspring to optimise their body-mind and health. It uses the latest biomechanics of the body to create even tone through out, to work all parts evenly at all times. Lots of the postures are the same as in modern postural yoga. It is the alignment that is different, easier on the joints and putting less stress on the ligaments but creating a deep and even tone throughout.

The first time I fell in love with something I did, was massage with yoga I feel the same. Spa @ home will continue to work to relax you, bring you the latest in anti-aging and now we will help you work with your body-mind and health.

I hope you all have a wonderful March

The sun has got his hat on!!

Hello! Having the most amazing weather it has arrived and we are all smiling. Just a quick blog as we are all running about as usual.

Wanted to use this blog to remind you all now is the time to make sure you are drinking lots of fluids!

We all are lovers of lemon water and this being the perfect time of year as lemons are everywhere you look on this island. So go grab some and get it in your water.

what you don't realize with a lemon is its full of vitamin C,B Complex vitamins, -Calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and fibre.

Having some lemon in warm water early and waiting 15 minutes before breakfast is the best, but also adding it into your bottle of water whilst you exercise, are down and the beach or even in the office is great. Having this after massage too works wonders.

Lemon water is known to help boost your immune system, help cleanse your system, aids digestion, freshens breathe, helps keep skin blemish free (antioxidant), helps you loose weight, reduces inflammation and best of all gives you an energy boost!!

So cheers!! Have an amazing weekend

Easter is just around the corner

Hello blogger world and all our clients.

It has been a while since we have been in blog land, but we are happy to be back with you. As a lot of you already know 2015 has already been a busy year for our team spa@home. Amanda gave birth to the beautiful boy Charlie Joe Tabb on the 1st of march. Louise has been at retreats and working all over the island seeing lots of "regular" faces and lots of new (someone funny was bound to kill me if I wrote "old"). We have also recently trained in reiki. Robin doing refresher, Amanda and Louise training in it for the first time (Ask Amanda reiki does really work). We will be incorporating this into our treatments. We are all Loving reiki!!

I wanted to mention in this blog the changes over the last couple of years, within the in the spa and beauty industry, especially this year there has been a push of educating people about there skin, diet and exercise. What we put into our bodies.  This really follows the philosophy of spa@home and what, we as a team try to represent. This includes are continuous work with Gaia Natural Mallorca , and the amazing locally sourced products, they make for spa@home.

Our big thing this year and something you wont of heard much about (its very new here in mallorca). Is our two new treatments. Oriental Cosmetic facial acupuncture and Meridian stretch.  We have had great results with clients loving both new treatments, With the facial being the answer to anyone thinking about Botox or surgery...You have to give this a try before (its amazing!). While the stretch leaves you feeling like you've just done an intensive hour of yoga whilst lying down, great for any of our sports, gym and/or cycling clients.

In other news we are so looking forward to the openings of the hotels Cas Xorc  and the Des Puig in the Start of April.Cas Xorc celebrating 15 years and Des Puig after it´s refurb.. Then comes the Es Moli Celebrating 50years opening on the 17th of April.

Lots of other things happening in our little village of Deia too. If you haven't already seen in the press, congratulations are in order for Richard Branson's Son Sam on the arrival of his daughter ,  Eva Deia. Lovely reminder of how our little village is so special to so many people. Louise has been on a mission trying to save Dolphins as well this winter, but that is a story for another time!!!

So we wish you all an amazing Easter. The weather is supposed to be great and lets hope we get lots of chocolate and rest. See you all very soon.

This time of year in Mallorca.....

Mallorca in April

I've been a bit late with the blog this last two weeks. We have been so busy with treatments that I haven't found the time. But I'm back.

Thought I'd tell you what happens this time of year in Mallorca. Well the weather is changeable as it always seems to be. We have all types of weather from very hot to a bit grey and cooler. Personally I love this time of year. The storms we have are amazing. Plus its a very relaxing time to really enjoy Mallorca. All the fantastic Restaurants in Deia have opened back up. We will be making our regular visits to Sebastian for lobster ravioli. Also no music is needed whilst doing treatments as the sound of the rain, light sea breeze, wind and birds singing  is all you need. It's the time of year to sit back relax, read and have a massage by the fire in the comfort of your own home.

Its also what I like to call cyclists season our roads once again are full with professional and some non professional cyclists. I love driving behind these obviously passionate cyclists. To do the tramuntana mountains you would have to be dedicated. Teams of cyclists seem to come from all around the world. We have all different nationalites Italians, English, German, Irish all different people coming to cycle here.

Why Cyclists love Mallorca.

Mallorca has become a winter training ground for many professional cycling teams. The Vuelta a Mallorca is held in early February. The event itself is used as an early season preparatory event by many of the top teams in readiness for the bigger races later in the season. With low traffic and respectful local drivers, good all year round weather, high mountain passes. This is the perfect place if you love to cycle.

We have a dedicated treatment for cyclists here at spa@home called cyclists stretch. This is a full hour to work on where you need it most. Neck, back, legs and feet can all be treated. Using a combination of techniques including stretching, cupping and sports massage. We can make sure you get back onto the bike the next day to take in some more of our fantastic routes.

Recommended for cyclists
Reflexology

Using specific pressure points on the feet, this alternative therapy is not only relaxing but it can also help with: •Stress and stress-related conditions •Tension headaches •Digestive disorders •Arthritis •Insomnia •Hormonal imbalances •Sports injuries  •Menstrual disorders, such as premenstrual syndrome •Digestive problems, such as constipation •Back pain

Cranio Sacral therapy

This very gentle technique works on the very subtle movements of the cranial and spinal bones, and the tissues surrounding them. Ideal for treating general ailments and specific problems including: migraine, stress, depression, back and neck injuries and more.

Cupping

An alternative way to de-stress, detox and kick start your system. Cupping is a technique practiced for 1000´s of years in chinese medicine. By applying suction ( or an area of low pressure ) to specific meridian/accupressure points,  it mobilizes stagnent blood flow to help aid and promote healing. Ideal for many aches, pains and specific ailments. Also a very effective way of treating cellulite and breaking down fatty deposits.

Well I shall be writing to you all again soon I hope you enjoy a bit more about Mallorca.

Cupping Therapy

Here at Spa@ home we are in love with cupping. It is an alternative way to destress, detox and kickstart your system.

The History of Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy has been around for years . It developed over time from the original use of hollowed out animal horns (the horn method) . Into bamboo cups and eventually replaced by glass and silicone. The True origin of cupping still remains uncertain to this day. Some of the earliest pictorial records date back to the  Egyptians around 1500BC . Translations of the oldest medical textbook, detail the use of cupping for treating fever, pain and vertigo. Cupping is a powerful healing treatment.

What the treatment does.

By applying suction (or an area of low pressure) to specific meridians/acupressure points, it mobilizes stagnant bloodflow to help aid and promote healing.
Latest studies show that cupping treatment is proven to help back pain, knee pain and neck pain too.

Lots of well know celebrities have been seen with cupping marks, cupping has become a new go to treatment. Even though it been around for a long time. We see people more and more with cupping marks. Just the other day I was in the car following a cyclist around the mountain and you could see he had some work done on his shoulders. As we are training for the TUI marrathon in October our cups are going to come in handy!

People seem to be worried and its been mentioned in the press alot about the marks left after a cupping treatment. 1st thing you have to know is that, they are not bruises. The marks result from dredging stagnation from within bodily tissue, up closer to the surface of the skin. Helping to restore flow of energy and blood to the areas treated . Marks can last 3 days to 1 week. Also when you touch the marked area you have no pain so it doesnt feel like a bruise at all. Plus you can see what exactly your areas of concern are. You will be amazed at what the cupping treatment can pick up.

We have noticed not only amazing results with pain management but also as a fantastic anti cellulite treatment.

Im sure like many people you have tried the lastest in technology and anticelluite creams. I have tried most on the market and have done most more advanced techniques using machines. Whilst the results with those techniques are great. Cupping whilst not pain free (the more cellulite you have the more it can be slightly unconfortable although this lessens as time goes by and the more treatments you have) has amazing results in really breaking down and helping too remove the toxins from stubbon fat deposit areas. Whilst exercersice and eating correctly is of course necessary, we have started to do courses here to help kick start your cellulite free bodies. To help you look the best on the beach this summer.
